Player Positions
Back Player
images/Paintball Back Player.gifI like to think a back player is just to let all the other players know what is happening. A back player stays at the back of their team’s side of the field. Back players are also supposed to provide cover for the mid players and front players/tape runners and mid players. The back players are supposed to carry a lot of ammo on them. This is because they are in an environment where they have a lot of cover so are least likely to get shot. However they have to keep the other players covered as they watch what the other team players are doing.

This is the position I play most of the time. Iver been told I good at sending out messages about what I see the other team doing and what my teammtes should do.

Mid Player
images/Paintball Mid Player.gifA mid player is exactly that. They are a player that stations themselves between the back of their team’s side of the field and the border line of the two teams’ sections. Depend on the situation they might even move more forward about to where the two sides meet. Rarely might they go over to the other side as well. In other words they are always between the back players and front players/tape runners In the process of doing this they serve a purpose of helping forward communication between the back players and front players/tape runners. It is good for mid players to be aware of not only where they are in relationship to the front players/tape runners but also the back players as well. They are the middle point between them.
Front Player/Tape Runner
images/Paintball Tape Runner.gifA front player/tape runner is the player that everyone is covering. The front player/tape runner is trying to accomplish the goal of the game that will lead to victory. For example, let’s assume it is a typical game of Capture the Flag. The front players/tape runner’s job is to GET THE FLAG. The best way for them to do this is only use people who can move REALLY FAST as front players/tape runners. They will also carry very little ammo and worry more about moving in and accomplishing the goal than they do about actually shooting enemies. Shooting enemies is something they will mostly leave to the cover of the mid players and back players.
Equipment
Field Squeegee
There are squeegees made only for quickly cleaning your gun in the field in case a ball explodes in it in the middle of a game. Some of them even come with cases for you to connect to your body somewhere and carry them around in the field with you.
Guppy Pods
I have no clue where these things got their name but they have good purposes. They are little tubes that carry extra paintballs when you run out of ammo in the middle of the game. The average guppy pod holds about one hundred to one hundred and twenty five paintballs. There are different numbers of them you should carry depending on how long the game is going to last and what position you are going to play. In an outdoor game I carry six of these with me, in an indoor game I carry two of them. The good thing about indoor games is you can just empty the pod into your hopper and drop it in the area you are in then pick it up after the game is done. That is not the case with an outdoor game. During outdoor games you have to put it back in the pouch you carry it in. This is not as easy as it sounds when you have to move fast and you have enemies firing at you.
Water Carrier
During real long games things can get intense and you can sweat to the point that it feels bad. To avoid this carry some water with you in the field. The only problem is it is not easy to drink it through the mask you are not allowed to remove in the field. I have seen some people poor the water on their face under the mask hoping some of it will go in their mouth. My suggestion is to get a camel pace. It is a little backpack you where that carries a lot of water in it and has a tube you can stick in your mouth whenever you need some water. The tube fits under the edge of a mask very easily.
Other Stuff

Every once in a while on a day when you don’t have games taken your gun out and do some basic target practice. Start off by just shooting and trying to hit. Later I try to make it a bit more difficult. Try setting a bunker in front of you so you will have to stay behind the bunker but move as if you were on the field in order to shoot. Then make that more difficult by limiting the amount of time you are aloud to poke yourself out of the bunker. After that work on practicing the process of moving from one bunker to another as you shoot at this target.

In my opinion you should do some warm up exercises before a day of paintball. I believe everyone has their own variety of stretches and exercises to do before doing anything active. It is best to do some of these as you are getting ready at the beginning and doing other preparation such as getting your equipment prepared.
